A short break to Europe in spring or summer is the perfect antidote to the winter blues. To add to the draw, there are several exciting new art exhibitions happening around Europe this year. Together with the help from our friends at Kirker, we have highlighted some of the best from the landmark Vermeer perspective at the Rijksmuseum to Dürer in Berlin and several more including an exhibition at the Prado in Madrid to mark the 50 th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso.
Berlin’s Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) is the repository of a priceless and vast collection encompassing more than half a million prints and drawings including masterpieces by Botticelli, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Picasso, Warhol and Richter. Amongst its highlights is one of the most important collections of works by Albrecht Dürer. This collection is rarely displayed and will open this summer with over 120 exhibits of engravings, woodcuts and drawings.
Price from £899 per person including flights, transfers, accommodation, breakfast and a 72 hour Berlin Museum Pass.
In one of the most important exhibitions of 2023, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam will host the largest Johannes Vermeer retrospective ever held. Little more than 30 works by the artist exist today and the Rijksmuseum will complement its own 4 paintings by Vermeer with 24 loans from around the world.
Price from £898 per person including flights, transfers, accommodation, breakfast and free entrance to the Rijksmuseum.
Displaying more than 50 works by Van Gogh inclusion his 1887 self portrait, this new exhibition is on display at the Palazzo Bonaparte; the former residence of Napoleon’s mother. Letizia Bonaparte’s apartments have also been beautifully preserved on the first floor of this grand mansion located on the Piazza Venezia, in the very heart of Rome, facing the monument to Emanual I.
Price from £598 per person including flights, transfers, accommodation, breakfast, entrance to the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel or Villa Borghese and a complimentary aperitivo.
The father of Venetian painting, Giovanni Bellini pioneered the style which was taken up by Giorgione, Veronese and Titian. This new exhibition in the elegant mansion of the late collectors Edouard André and his wife Nélie Jacquemart includes 80 works by Bellini and those who inspired him. The best time to visit the exhibition is in the morning, allowing you time to linger for lunch in the beautiful café and tea rooms.
Price from £728 per person including flights, transfers, accommodation, breakfast and a 48 hour Paris Museum Pass.
To mark the 50 th anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s death in 1973, exhibitions and events have been planned in cities such as Malaga (his birthplace), Paris, Antibes, Barcelona and A Coruna in Galicia. One of the highlights will be at the Prado Museum in Madrid which is exhibiting his works alongside paintings by El Greco, one of the artists that influenced him the most. You can also see Picasso’s masterpiece ‘Guernica’ at the nearby Reina Sofia Museum.
Price from £876 per person including flights, transfers, accommodation, breakfast and a Paseo del Arte Card providing entrance to the Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia.
